Individuals

Our approach to individual work, as well as families and couples is integrative.  We conceptualize our work from many different treatment perspectives including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Family Systems Theory, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Humanistic-Existential, Gestalt, EMDR, Psychodynamic, and Relational-Cultural Theory.

We may draw from one or more of these treatment approaches, depending on your needs and what you want to work on. What follows is a non-exhaustive list of fairly common issues that you might want help with, that we have expertise and experience in:

    • Depression and Anxiety,
    • Eating disorders,
    • Relationship problems,
    • Mood and emotion instability,
    • Borderline Personality Disorder,
    • Self-harming or self-destructive behavior,
    • Sexual abuse survivor issues,
    • Post-traumatic stress or trauma,
    • Grief and Loss,
    • Work-related issues,
    • Sexuality concerns,
    • Addictions,
    • Low self-esteem, and
    • Stress management

If you are struggling with something that is not on that list that you want help with, please feel free to inquire and we will share our level of expertise treating the issue of your concern.  We welcome and appreciate diversity in our practice, and enjoy working with people of any race, ethnicity, religion, sexual or gender orientation - we are geared towards understanding you as a whole person.

Groups

Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Training Groups

This treatment consists of weekly group skills training to help with applying new skills to everyday life.  Three sets of skills - how to interact effectively with others, how to regulate intense emotions, and how to tolerate distress, in ways that are not harmful to you or others - are taught in three separate modules.  The fourth set of skills - mindfulness skills - involves effective awareness of the here-and-now, and learning to control attention. Since mindfulness is at the core of all the skills, mindfulness skills are taught for two weeks before each module of interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance.  Thus, it takes nine months to complete all skills training modules one time.  Most people learn the skills most effectively if they complete the full set of skills modules two times.   Participants are required to be at least 18 years of age, and in individual therapy.  The  group meets once per week, in Bala Cynwyd, on Tuesday evenings. Group times are 2:30 PM - 4:15 PM , 6:00 PM 7:45 PM or 8:00 PM to  9:45 PM.

Feel free to contact us for more information or to schedule an assessment. If you are in the Chadds Ford or West Chester area, please contact Dr. Linda Filetti.

If you are in the Philadelphia or Bala Cynwyd area, please contact Dr. Stephanie Mattei or Helina Lukens.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) Psycho-educational Support Group

This is a psycho-educational support group for women struggling with PCOS and/or insulin resistance.   Many women with PCOS and insulin resistance also struggle with issues of body image, self-care, binge or emotional eating, mood instability, and infertility issues.  Our intention is to provide support and offer education about how this medical condition affects the body in a compassionate and nurturing environment.  Group is held in Bala Cynwyd on the 2nd Saturday of each month from 9-10:30 am.

For more information please contact Dr. Stephanie B. Mattei or Angela Grassi, MS, RDLDN

Consultation and Education for Professionals

We provide consultation for therapists and other professionals who have a desire to learn more about Dialectical Behavior Therapy, who are struggling to incorporate skills training into their practice, and for those mental health professionals who are looking to expand their theoretical framework.  This consultation can be particularly useful for therapists who are struggling with working effectively with specific clients.  We offer consultation and education for those therapists who have clients in our skills groups and for other professionals as well.  We offer both individual supervision and group trainings on the basic assumptions and fundamental principles of DBT.

If you are interested or would like more information about this service and are in the Chadds Ford or West Chester area, please contact Dr. Linda Filetti.
